Prayers During Covid – Tuesday 14 July 2020

Day 110

Please pause whatever you’re doing and join me in this prayer:

“Lord of life, as our nation braces itself for the sharp surge in Covid infections, we know that with it the number of people who will require hospitalization in the coming weeks will rise dramatically. And so today we pray very specifically for the people and the processes that are needed to ensure that critical hospital care will be available and accessible for everyone who needs it. We continue to pray for all doctors and nurses serving in hospitals at considerable personal cost, who make the Christ-like choice every day to lay down their lives for others. We pray for your protection and strength for these flesh-and-blood expressions of your love and care, who quite literally stand in the gap between life and death and without whom the Covid wards would be little more than mortuary waiting rooms. We pray too for all hospital managers and administrators who are responsible for overseeing the complex processes required for hospitals to function effectively and efficiently. May they be diligent and truly wise in the ways in which they work, removing bottlenecks and inefficiencies in their systems, ensuring the free-flow of resources to areas of greatest need, safeguarding the wellbeing of medical personnel, building critical partnerships with others. In a country burdened for so long by the shameful disparities in health care for the rich and the poor, we pray that this moment of crisis would break through that blasphemous divide, so that the resources of private and public healthcare facilities can be shared in co-operative ways for the benefit of all within this land. Lord of life, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen.”

Grace and peace. Roger
